Lady Falcons Dig Out Of Preseason Hole

By Nick Smith

The CB Varsity Women’s Volleyball team has its challenges and goals laid ahead of it. This past week, the Lady Falcons have already begun to feel the strong conviction of the teams they will be facing, but they are prepared to exceed it in full.

In their first outing, a non-conference home match against powerful Granite Bay on Monday August 28th, our girls gave a long fight, but ultimately could not come out on top, as the Grizzlies shut them out 3-0. Shortly after on Wednesday the 30th, the team hit the road to face Pleasant Grove in their first away match. Unfortunately, our girls were out of luck once again, and lost to PG with another 3-0 shutout. The Lady Falcons returned to their home court the next day to battle Bella Vista in a non-league match, displaying a stronger offense than their last two games, but sadly fell to the Broncos 3-1.

With a heavy number of three early losses, the Lady Falcons set out to a tournament in  Reno on last Firday, hoping to earn back their mojo with some valuable wins. The girls narrowly lost their first match to Reno 2-1, but bounced back with their first win of the year against El Capitan 2-1. Shortly afterwards, our Varsity team faced a slew of strong and effective teams, losing three consecutive matches against West-Tracy (2-1), Homestead (2-0), and Reno (2-0).

Things looked grim, but our Lady Falcons were not ready to give up just yet. The girls won the two final matches of their Reno tournament experience, shutting out both West-Salt Lake City and El Camino 2-0. The Lady Falcons finished their tournament with a negative, but respectable total of three wins and four losses. Fresh off their first wins of the season, our girls took to the court once again this past Thursday to battle past section champion Bradshaw Christian. The team carried on the momentum from the tournament into the match and came out on top, devastating Bradshaw Christian 3-0. With their preseason underway and some valuable wins under their belt, the girls of the Varsity Volleyball are looking to continue their streak of wins and hit their full stride as the season gets heated.
