This past Wednesday and Thursday, the varsity women’s water polo team took on River City and Roseville. The team’s speed and strong passes lead to multiple shots by Sierra Martin’18, Maddie Mercer’18, and Espy Razo ’18. By the end of the first half, the Falcons were up 6-2. With effective defense and strong blocks from goalie Macy Mendoza ’18, the team was able to keep the Raiders from catching up to them. Late in the third quarter, Alyce Muñoz ’19 scored an incredible goal from the outside, putting the girls up by four and leaving River City’s hopes dashed. To finish off the game, the girls were able to shutdown their opponent’s offense to end the game with a score of 11-8.
The next day, the team hosted Roseville High School at Sac City College. Although senior starter Espy Razo could not attend, this did not put a negative impact on the Lady Falcons pursuit to win. Within the first two quarters of the game, the girls had a solid defense and strong offense leaving them with a 6-2 lead. The Lady Falcons had smooth ball movement and powerful shots from shooters Sierra Martin, Maddie Mercer, and Emma Busch ’20. Defensivelym the girls were able to shut down Roseville’s offense with many shot blocks and steals from Julia Dudensing, Olivia Busch ’18, and Alyce Muñoz, as well as goalies Macy Mendoza and Katie Williams ’19. From the starting sprint to the final four seconds of the game, the girls started strong and finished stronger, ending with a 16-5 win over Roseville. Taking home two wins this week puts an optimistic effect on the girls outlook of the rest of the season. The Falcons take the pool again tonight at 6:15 PM at Sacramento College against the Rio Linda Knights.
