The only thing shining brighter than the sun on Saturday morning was the Christian Brother Falcon offense. Christian Brothers went into their game against McClatchy 0-2 coming off a loss in the biggest game of the year. But a loss last week did not seem to matter as the Falcon offense were able to put up 42 points in their shutout of Lions.
Christian Brothers showed up a little loose as they were playing a team that has not had a winning record in over five years, but after a few drives, they flipped the switch and were ready to play some football. After a punt pinned the Lions into their own 20 yard line near the end of the first quarter, linebacker Jack O’Hearn ’18 was able to pick off a ball tipped off of a Lion receiver to turn the ball over to the Falcon offense. After only a few short plays, quarterback Gunnor Faulk ’18 was able to hit big tight end Spencer Webb ’18 in the end zone to put the first points on the board.
Without scoring again in the fist quarter, Faulk was ready to get the ball to his playmakers and let them do their jobs. Looking for junior sensation Tyler Green ’19, Gunnor was able to get a pass off at the 45 yard line as Green broke three tackles and get in for the Touchdown. Shortly after, the Falcons were back on offense at the CKM 20 yard line when Gunnor handed the ball off to Tyler Green as he ran through a pile of defenders and get in for his second touchdown of the night.
McClacthy started with the ball at the beginning of the second half, but the Falcon defense put on the gas, forcing a quick 3 and out. Driving down the field, the Christian Brothers offense was able to put the ball into the CKM five yard line when Faulk kept the ball and ran to the outside, giving the Falcons another touchdown to make the score 28-0. Shortly into the fourth quarter, Faulk put receiver Will Warner ’18 into motion faking the handoff and completing a screen pass to Tyler Green, who was able to drive up the field for 37 yard and another score. Lucca Batturaro ’18 was able to make the score 35-0 with his fifth extra point of the day as both teams were beginning to put in their substitutions. Just before the game was ending, second string quarter back Andrew Dettling ’19 was able to hand the ball off around the 7 yard line to second string running back Jaiden Green ’18 for a 6 yard touchdown, giving Jaiden his first score on the year.
After a rough first two weeks for the Falcon Football team, a good win in the hot day will give them some confidence as the look into the future for the next couple of weeks. Christian Brothers will have their first true game on the road on Friday the 23rd as they will face Winters High School. Kick off will be at 7:00 PM in Winters. Go Falcons.
