In Spanish the phrase “VENAVER” means “come and see.” The VENAVER program is an intense immersion experience in which students have the opportunity to see, experience, and live for 5-7 days in a setting unlike any other. VENAVER provides the participants with a cultural experience that invites students and teachers to affirm a common bond among all people as children of God. It also challenges perceived boundaries between oneself and others, as well as, oneself and God.
Christian Brothers’ immersion programs are meant to catecheticize and enhance the faith life of the school in accordance with the spirit of the The Rule of the Brothers of the Christian Schools.
The following are components and learning outcomes of VENAVER:
Faith
Through communal prayer and reflection students will identify how the holy presence of God can be found in one another and the people they will meet.
Community
Through community living and shared learning, students will exercise interdependency and joint decision-making. Through interacting with members of the community in which they serve, students will hear and share stories of commonalities and differences in their lives.
Christian Service-Learning
Through direct service to others, students will connect their service to the social, political, and economic realities of our times, as well as, actively answer the call to serve others as stewards of the Gospel.
Social Justice
Through experiencing the intense realities of life in the communities they serve, students will share their thoughts on the importance of the Gospel’s call to love and act justly.
Immersion
Through living, praying, working, and playing, with people who have had different experiences, students acquire an education that can never be duplicated in the classroom.
Simplicity
Through living in simple accommodations, students will examine and evaluate their values as world consumers, as they become aware of the living conditions and plights of others.
