On a beautiful Saturday at Haggin Oaks Golf Course, our CB XC team participated in the 3rd Annual Capital Classic. Other participants in the race were some top tier teams, including Jesuit, Placer, Vista Del Lago, St. Francis and some Nevada teams. At the end of the day, CB’s runners had a lot of PRs and extremely successful races with a handful of surprises. In the Men’s seeded race, CB’s team was up against two of Nevada’s best teams as well as Placer, Jesuit, Vista, Rio Americano and Campolindo. Patrick Wiseman ’18 led the team, followed by Nevin Afong ’19, Isaiah Jimenez ’19, Berto Mujica ’19, Sam Copley ’19, Enrique Verschoor ’19 and Nico Sanchez ’19 finishing a respectable 13th overall out of 34 teams. CB’s Women’s team finished 16th among the 36 teams lead by Amelia Poroli ’18, Aileen Fortin ’19, Julia Padilla ’18, Emma Roberts ’18 and Kathryn Kasbergen ’19. Among the younger runners, newcomers Malia Gay ’21, Rain Cheng ’21 and Paige Sparks ’21 teamed up with Riley Vigil ’20 and Lindsey Cooper ’20 to lead the Frosh/Soph girls to a 5th place finish in their race. Frosh/Soph boys also had a remarkable day behind another excellent race from 9th graders Jack Stokes ’21 and Jacob Schnetz ’21, who two days prior had sprained his elbow during a fall at practice. Along with Sophs Hunter Rojo ’20 and Luke Powers ’20 and fellow 9th graders Rafael Lobo ’21, Ryan Price ’21 and Mark Duncan ’21, the boys were able to secure a ninth place finish among the 19 teams. Next up os CAL League Meet at Willow Hills Folsom and the Clovis Invitational in Fresno, California.

Last week our Lady Falcons tennis team hit the court against Mira Loma and Rio Americano. Strong performances came from Lin Tran ’21 against Mira Loma, and Sydney Obmann ’20 against Rio Americano. While they fought hard, their efforts were unsuccessful, resulting in two losses. The girls hit a rough patch in the beginning of their season, but bounced back against El Camino last Tuesday with a 9-0 victory. They also have a 6-3 win against Casa Roble under their belt, bringing their record to an even 3-3, and hope to win against Vista del Lago Tuesday and get revenge on Mira Loma this Thursday. With head coach Sean Mar pushing the ladies to go the distance, it’s only a matter of time before they will pull through with a winning record.
