Cross Country Succeeds Across California

Last Friday, the Men’s Varsity Cross Country headed down to SoCal to partake in the D-IV race at the Mt. SAC Invitational. The men raced in this highly competitive race and proved to their fellow competitors that the Falcons from Sac- Joaquin section are the team to beat. The team of Isiah Jimenez (‘19), Nevin Afong(‘19) , Pat Wiseman(‘18), Alberto Mujica(‘19), Sam Copley(‘19), Enrique Verschoor (‘19) and Nico Sanchez (‘19)  finished behind Sage Creek and our sister school Cathedral of Los Angeles. The Falcons strong running pack was able to place 4th overall and 3rd in the D-IV race.

While the men represented in Southern California, the remainder of the CBXC team headed to Rio Linda on the wonderful morning of Homecoming to start the day off right. Flat Sac at Gibson Ranch was a stellar weekend for the team. The Frosh/Soph girls proved to the competition that they are ready to run at league finals.

They were able to finish one point behind Whitney High School to take second overall. Rookie runner Malia Gay (‘20)  lead the 7 woman team to the finish. Following quickly behind her was Paige Sparks (‘21), Rain Cheng, Riley Vigil(‘20), Lindsey Cooper(‘21), Layla Airola(‘20) and Jessica Martinez (’20). The frosh/ soph Men took 5th place overall While the Varsity Women’s team finished 9th out the 20 teams. The Wonder Woman of this week is Margaret Donovan(‘19), as she showed great dedication to the team and proved to herself what she is able to do on the course. She had a PR and ran her first 5K with great pace this past weekend.

Several individuals, including  Aileen Fortin (‘19), Julia Padilla (‘18), Abigail Donovan (‘21), Jack O’Brien (’21), Rafa Fernandez (’20), Mike Ma (’21), and Avery Dana (’21) had their record season’s bests on this fast and flat course.  The team heads to Willow Hills in Folsom on Thursday for the CAL Finals.
