Women’s Water Polo Narrowly Escape in Section Playoffs

This Thursday, the women’s water polo team accomplished their first Sac-Joaquin Section playoff game win. Although they were the home team, they traveled out to Whitney High School to take on the Beyer Patriots. With a quick start to the first quarter, the girls played strong defense and had two goals early on from senior Sierra Martin ’18. The girls fell back while Beyer scored two quick goals to tie it up in the first quarter. Off to a slow start in the second quarter, Beyer put up three quick goals while CB trailed 5-2. Without losing hope, the Lady Falcons kept fighting and threw back one goal in the second while the Patriots were still up 6-3.

By the third quarter, the girls were still high in energy and were not trying to slow their intensity on defense. The Busch sisters were the dynamic duo with great defensive steals from Olivia ’18 and phenomenal whole set offense from Emma ’20. With the help of Maddie Mercer ’18 and Espy Razo ’18, the girls were able to make a comeback with a close score of 7-5 in the end of the third quarter. In the fourth quarter, the Lady Falcons worked Beyer, holding them 7-7 with only two minutes left. With only a minute left, senior Espy Razo’18 grabbed a quick rebound shot off her miss, drew the goalie out, and took a strong shot to get the Lady Falcons up 8-7. For the next 55 seconds, the girls pressed hard on defense and refused to let Beyer come back. This astounding win sent the girls to the second round of section playoffs on Tuesday, as they will take on Sonora at 9:15 AM.
