On Friday night, the men’s water polo team kicked off their playoff journey as the Pacheco Panthers headed to Sacramento to try and knock off the top seeded Falcons. The eighth seeded Panthers scored in the first minute of the game to take a 1-0 lead early in the first quarter. The early goal was a wake up call for the heavily favored Falcons. Sam Noonan (’20) broke through for the Falcons with a goal from four meters out that he rocketed past the goalie. Nick Piper (’19) and Owen Clark (’19) combined for three more goals in the first, as the Falcons headed to the second quarter with a 4-1 lead. From there, the rout was on for the Falcons. Sophomore sensation Noonan led the Falcons with six of the Falcons’ 18 goals. The Panthers managed to score five goals, but it didn’t match the Falcons’ 18, as the Falcons cruised into the semi finals with a 13 goal win. The Falcons will take on the fourth seeded Oakdale Mustangs in the Sac-Joaquin Division III Section semi-finals on Wednesday morning at 9 A.M. Tokay High School. In their only prior match up with the Mustangs, the Falcons dismantled them easily 13-4 in the second game of the season. Of course, a lot can change over the course of a season, so the Falcons shouldn’t take the Mustangs lightly. If the Falcons can play well and repeat that early season performance, the Falcons will get a win and advance into the section championship game as they attempt to defend last year’s title and become back to back section champions.
