This past Tuesday the women’s water polo team traveled out to Modesto to battle Sonora in their second round of the Sac-Joaquin Division III playoffs. Although it was an early start, the girls went out with clear eyes and a strong mindset to take home another win. The game had a quick start with the Lady Falcons shutting down the Wildcats offense. Goalie Macy Mendoza ’18 prevented strong outside shots, with forceful help from defenders Olivia Busch ’18, Espy Razo ’18, and Julia Dudensing ’18. The girls pushed hard in the first quarter, only letting one goal from the Wildcats at the last minute of play.
Brothers came out strong in the second quarter with a close score of 1-0. Sonora made a rapid three points in the first four minutes of the quarter, while the Lady Falcons held them for the last three minutes. Though they were down 4-0 to start off the second half, the girls had no loss of hope. They pushed through and worked with the Wildcats, still letting four more goals in. Going into the fourth, the girls pushed themselves to their very limits and played their hearts out with every second of the game. Espy Razo pulled through with the Lady Falcon’s lone point at the end of the fourth quarter. With an end result of a 10-1 loss, the girls held their heads high and Falcon pride higher. This will not be the end for these Lady Falcons, as they will continue their journey for the next two weeks, potentially working for the NorCal championship.
