On Friday night, the Falcons headed into the quarterfinals of the Sac-Joaquin section D-III playoffs against the Rio Linda Knights with high energy. Brothers started off strong with the first touchdown of the game as QB Gunnor Faulk ’18 completed a 12 yard touchdown Tyler Green ’19. Faulk passed to Spencer Webb ’18 for a two point conversion to bring the score to 8-0. The boys stuffed Rio Linda’s opening drive and countered with a 42 yard rushing touchdown from Faulk with 3:55 remaining in the first quarter, but they were unable to complete the 2 point conversion as the Falcons lead 14-0. On their next drive, Rio Linda running back Eric Williams completed a 2 yard rushing touchdown to put the Knights on the board at 14-7.
Rio Linda’s quarterback Tyson Ybarra started off the second quarter with a 9 yard rushing touchdown to tie the score up. After another defensive stop, Rio Linda scored another 20 yard rushing touchdown to give the Knights 21-14 halftime lead..
CB’s strong defense, lead by Daniel Simoes ’18, Jake Regino ’18, and Connor Laffan ’18, held Rio Linda the entire third quarter, but the Knights still lead going into the fourth quarter. After a huge defensive stop in the red zone, the Falcons responded with a throw from Faulk to find Webb for a 3 yard touchdown. Faulk completed a 2 point conversion pass to Jack O’Hearn ’18 with 7:24 remaining in the game to give the Falcons a 22-21 lead. With a minute remaining, Jacob Tucker ’18 completed an 8 yard rushing touchdown to extend the Brothers lead. Faulk found Tyler Green in the end zone for a 2 point conversion to put the game out of reach at 30-21. The Falcons defense got back-to-back sacks to run down the clock and seal the victopry.
The Falcons will travel to Manteca next Friday to take on the Buffaloes in the section semifinals working for a section banner. The boys played Manteca for their first game of the season and lost by one in the last couple minutes of the game. They are excited for this tough rematch. Christian Brothers has arranged a bus to transport CB students to and from the game, so come out to Manteca and support Brothers as they look to return to the section title game.
