Falcons Soccer Falls to Eagles, Flies Above Matadors

By Nick Smith
After their valiant victory over the Casa Roble Rams 5-3, the Men’s Varsity Soccer team took their fighting spirit to battle the Vista Del Lago Eagles last Tuesday. Though the boys brought a huge amount of energy and fury to the beginning of the match, their composition as a team was not on point. There was an immediate disconnect between the front and back lines of the team, and though the boys had good drives on their own, many of their passes could not connect. The Falcons defense eventually crumbled, giving up three powerful strikes. Though there was one excellent goal from senior Alex Silva ’18, the boys eventually fell to the Eagles with a score of 3-1.
Following such a devastating loss, Coach Jacob Hunley ’96 took it upon himself to improve the morale of the team. On Tuesday February 6, the boys came back to the pitch to battle the Mira Loma Matadors at El Camino High School. The Falcons had previously lost to the Matadors 4-3. Back for revenge, the boys brought their all to the game, easily pushing past the Matador defense. Excellent strikes came from Zachary Martin ’19, JT Waldon ’19, and Hunter Dierlam ’20. With the excellent combination of Falcon defense and offense, the boys easily destroyed the Matadors with a score of 4-0. This victory means the team has earned its way into the CIF section playoffs.
High off their win, the boys now look to battle against the Rio Americano Raiders this Thursday on Senior Night. Our boys fell hard to the Raiders in their last match against Rio, but they seek retribution and hope to give a good fight.
