Men’s Volleyball Splits Openers With Two Thrillers

The Christian Brothers Falcons Varsity Men’s Volleyball faced off against the Davis Blue Devils on Monday. The Falcons won the first set with ease 25-21. The Falcons thought they had a sure win. But with the Falcons relaxed, the Blue Devils played harder and took the 2nd set 25-20. The Falcons tried harder the next set, but still came up short, losing the set 25-22. The Falcons needed to win the 4th set to stay in the game. They played hard, forcing the game to extra points, but they came up short losing the set 26-24.
On Wednesday, our Falcons played against Sheldon Huskies. The Huskies played hard and pushed our Falcons to a 26-24 first set. The main source of points for CB that set was the Huskies missing seven of their serves. The next set our Falcons had too many hitting and passing errors, leading the Huskies to easily win that set 25-22. The Falcons really wanted this win and came to the third set with a new mindset with more placement over power. Although they dropped the set, they pushed the score to 28-26. With the game on the line, the Falcons came into this set with fire, hitting hard, passing well, and getting aces on their serves. With all that in play, the Falcons easily won the set 25-16. Playing in the last set the Falcons had the same mindset as before hard hits and no mistakes. With this in mind, Coach Polo Lopez ’08 played outside hitter Cesar Borrego ‘18 as middle blocker, leading the Falcons to a victory, ending the set 15-8. Brothers plays again Monday at home against McClatchy. First set is at 6 PM.
