By Elias Vallejo & Sophia Cichetti

This past Monday, Varsity Women’s Volleyball played home opener against Cosumnes Oaks. The team came into the game looking for revenge from last season’s loss against the Wolfpack. Unfortunately, they came up short of the win, losing 3-2. The first set was dominated by attacks from Hailey Naldoza ‘19, leading the Falcons to a 25-23 win. But in the second set, the Falcons they came up short 25-20. In the third set, despite great setting by freshman starter Lauren McGinness ‘22, the Falcons lost 25-20. Coach James Todd made some changes to the lineup and Sophia Overstreet ‘20 delivered aggressive kills to help win the set 25-19. The Falcons started off slowly in the fifth set, as CO scored the first ten points. But Brothers rallied and scored eight consecutive points, but Cosumnes Oaks won the set 15-10 and the match.

The Falcons played on back to back nights, traveling to Ponderosa to take on the Bruins on Tuesday. The first set was close, but the Falcons were unable to come out with a win, losing 25-20. In the second set, the ladies made some adjustments, yet could not capitalize and lost the set 25-13. The Falcons came back with more energy, with freshman Gillian Hurley ’22 making many spectacular attacks in the middle front to help the Falcons secure the third set win 25-18. With this momentum, the Falcons kept a very close fourth set. However, they weren’t able to pull out the win, losing 25-21. Their season record is now 1-2 as they head into Friday’s away game against the Oakmont Vikings.
