After a strong start to the season, the Falcons suffered their first loss of the season to Vanden High School last Friday. Defense was key in the first half as both teams did not allow any points in the first quarter. The Falcons missed out on some major opportunities, fumbling on the one yard line in the second quarter. The Falcons defense was on point, forcing a quick three and out, giving the Falcons the ball back with two minutes left in the first half.
The Falcons offense showed some life by moving the ball down field with the help of great catches by Luke Jones ’20 and powerful runs by Chase Gallup ’19. The Falcons were able to cap off the drive with a field goal by Jackson Ryan ’20, with seconds left in the first half to give Brothers a 3-0 halftime lead.
Vanden came out strong in the second half by marching down the field and scoring quickly. Freddie Fiske ’19 broke up the pass for the two-point conversion, but Vanden took their first lead at 6-3. The Falcons answered back in quick fashion by running the ball, dominating the Vanden defense. Gallup scored on a two-yard touchdown run to make the score 10-6 with 6 minutes left in the third quarter.
Not fazed, the Vikings came out with a bang on their next possession with an 81-yard touchdown pass. Tyler Green ’19 broke up the two-point conversion as Vanden reclaimed the lead, 12-10. The fourth quarter was full of defense as Andrew Dettling ’19 made an interception that brought life into the Falcons sideline. Vanden responded by taking over the game in the last five minutes, scoring two touchdowns to pull ahead with a 26-10 win. The Falcons look to bounce back against Jesuit on Saturday at 7 PM.
