Cross Country Dominates In National Meet

Christian Brothers’ Cross Country team traveled to Los Angeles to compete in the Woodbridge Invitational this past weekend. The race is widely known as one of the largest meets in the nation, with over 30,000 athletes racing. This did not stop the Varsity boys from taking 2nd place in the Gold Race, with outstanding performances by Isaiah Jimenez ‘19, Nevin Afong ‘19, Enrique Verschoor ‘19Berto Mujica ‘19, and Sam Copley ’19, all breaking the CB 3-mile record. Jimenez, finishing 4th out of 164 runners, set the new Christian Brother’s 3-mile record with 15:14. Along with Jimenez’s stellar performance, Afong placed 6th, Verschoor placed 13th, Mujica placed 26th, and Copley placed 41st.

Leading CB’s Women’s Cross Country were the sophomores. Exceptional performances by Malia Gay ‘21, placing 4th, Rain Cheng ‘21,placing 9th, and Paige Sparks ‘21, placing 38th helped contributed to a successful overall team race. Also, Aileen Fortin ‘19, our only senior girl who ran, had a solid race, placing 68th. Following the victorious weekend, our Cross Country team looks forward to a great rest of the season.
