Falcons Drop Playoff Heartbreaker To Yuba City

By Justin Johnson

On Friday, the Falcons played Yuba City in the first round of the playoffs. The Falcons came in as the underdogs sitting as the tenth seed and were undersized by the Honkers. The Falcons got off to a hot start, scoring on their first possession of the game on a Jacob Stewart ’21 connection to Tyler Green ’19 for a 45 yard touchdown giving the Falcons an early 7-0 lead. This didn’t faze the Honkers as they drove down the field and scored a touchdown within a minute. Luckily for the Falcons, they missed the point after, which brought the score to 7-6. Yuba came back with another strong drive against the Falcons defense, scoring another touchdown making the score 12-7. The Honkers tried going for a two point conversion but Tyler Green had a clutch interception to keep the score at 12-7. The Falcons offense responded with a 12 yard touchdown catch by Green making the score 14-12. Jackson Ryan ’20 had a beautiful onside kick which was recovered by Andrew Dettling ’19. The Falcons couldn’t execute, giving the ball right back to the Honkers on an interception. The Honkers drove the ball down the field, scoring a touchdown and making the score 18-14. The Falcons needed to answer, so Luke Jones ’20 picked up the phone with huge 65 yard touchdown catch. Ryan’s extra point made the score 21-18 putting the Falcons ahead going into half time.

The Falcons looked to have a promising half, as Bryan Garrett ’21 caught a 30 yard touchdown pass out of the gates of half time. After the extra point, the Falcons lead expanded to 28-18. The Honkers were able to stop CB momentum, scoring a quick touchdown and having multiple stops on defense. With the score 28-24 heading into the fourth, the Falcons looked to seal a victory but the Honkers scored a touchdown putting them ahead 30-28. The Falcons were able to put together a strong drive, putting them into field goal range, but unfortunately for the Falcons the field goal was wide left of the upright. The missed field goal was the end to the Falcon’s season. We would like to show thanks to all of our seniors and wish them the best. Thank you to the fans who came out to all the games and to the players who worked hard every week and played their hearts out for the Falcons.
