The annual Holy Court (CBHS vs. JHS) basketball games are scheduled for Saturday, January 5, at Christian Brothers High School. The freshman team tips off at 3:00 p.m. followed by JV at 4:30 p.m. and varsity at 6:00 p.m. Online ticket sales are open. Please use the link and password below to access the site. As this game is typically sells out, purchasing tickets early is recommended.
Women’s Freshman Basketball
The Freshman girls are ending the year with two wins in the Rocklin Tournament after beating Inderkum (48-30) and Rocklin (38-22). On Saturday(12/29), they play Rio Americano to try to complete their sweep in Rocklin. With a win on Saturday the Freshman girls will close out the ‘18 year with a record of 9-5.
On all of the games there were outstanding performances from COLUMBA EFFIONG ‘22 with 16 points on Thursday night and LATAVIA PURDY ‘22 who had 22 points. OLIVIA CEPEDA ‘22 had 8 rebounds and one steal in a solid defensive effort. Keep it Falcons!
Women’s Varsity Basketball
As Christian Brothers continued through the Trojan Toss-Up tournament, they faced the hosting team, Oakridge. It was a tough battle between both teams. The Falcons took a strong lead going into half time with a score of 28-12. However, the Trojans would not go down without a fight and outscored the Falcons in the third quarter. Chance Sims ’19 would come in clutch and nail a three pointer at the end of the fourth quarter to put Christian Brothers up by 1 and win the game. Chance Sims ’19 would lead the team with 19 points. Bria Shine ’20 would add 17 points, followed by Donnelli Allen ’22 with 9 points.
The Falcons would face off against the Folsom Bulldogs in the championship game. It was a great first half for CB and they would go into half-time with a 1 point lead. The Falcons would be outscored in the next two quarters and fall to the Bulldogs by a score of 41-33. Christian Brothers would place second in the tournament. Chance Sims ’19 and Bria Shine ’20 would receive All-Tournament honors for their outstanding performances.
On Thursday, the Falcons headed to Castro Valley High School to begin the West Coast Jamboree Tournament. They would be matched up with Aragon. Christian Brothers would go into half-time with a three point lead. CB would come out of half time and outscore Aragon 17-8 in the third quarter. The Falcons would go on to win the game by a score of 63-46. Chance Sims ’19 lead all scorers with 26 points. Bria Shine ’20 added 18 points. They advance in the Coral bracket to face James Logan High School. CB improved to 7-3 overall.
Men’s Freshman Basketball
The freshman boys basketball team (11-1) had another strong week earning wins over Laguna Creek on Friday, Dec. 21 and Folsom on Thurs. Dec. 27. On Friday, the freshman came out slow against Laguna Creek, down 24-21 at half time. The team responded however in the second half, outscoring the Cardinals 49-17 in the second half, earning a 70-41 win. Ryan Rodriguez ’22 led the team with 10 points, 8 assists and 7 rebounds. John Marengo ’22 and John Piegaro ’22 were also big in the win scoring 14 points apiece, 24 of which came in the second half. On Thursday, the freshman started a very tough Jesuit High School tournament with a win over a strong Folsom team. After a scoreless first four minutes, the Falcons started to pull away and led from tip to final buzzer. A strong third quarter saw the Falcons increase their lead to as much as 16 before finally finishing with a 47-39 victory. Marengo led the scoring again with 14 points, but Piegaro and Andre Verspieren ’22 led the 3rd quarter run that helped seal the victory for the Falcons. Piegaro finished with 11 points, Verspieren finished with 7.
Men’s Junior Varsity Basketball
The boys JV basketball team enjoyed a nice break from the court during the Christmas break. They picked up where they left off at with a win in the first round of the McClatchy Christmas Tournament. By defeating Wood High School out of Vacaville 64-42. Led by Dylan Delucchi ‘21 with 20 points accompanied by Emilio Ralph ‘21 with 15 points. They will hit the hardwood again tonight at 8pm against Pleasant Grove High School. CB Record: 7-5
Men’s Junior Varsity Soccer
The boys JV Soccer team has gotten off to a very solid start. Only losing to archrival Jesuit HS. The offense has being led by Kenrick Dawson ’21 and Cole Hannah ’21 while Ben Delfino ’21 and freshman goalkeeper Andre Tabunda ’22 have led a strong JV defense. Our next game is on January 8th 2019 vs El Camino HS.

Men’s Varsity Soccer
The CB Soccer teams held their annual Alumni Soccer Game on December 22nd. Over 20 Christian Brothers Soccer Alumni participated in the game against the 2018-19 Varsity team. The game brought back CB Soccer Alumni from graduating years ranging from 1973-2018. This year’s edition of the “Brother’s Cup” was won by the CB Varsity. Congratulations guys and thank your Alumni for keeping this traditional event going!
On December 27-28th, the CB Soccer teams hosted an Indoor Soccer Clinic in the Fieldhouse and Gymnasium for current 5th-8th graders. Thank you to all of the CB student-athletes who helped to run the camp.
The Soccer team will resume games on January 8th, when they travel to El Camino for a league match. The team currently holds a record of 5 wins and 5 losses with a league record of 2-1.
