Defeat at Home and a Win on the Road for Men’s Basketball

By Graeme Farrell

This past Friday, our Men’s Basketball team tried to defend their home against the Sac High Dragons, who are ranked second in the Capital Athletic League. While the Falcons lost 62-44,  guards Luke Jones ‘20 and Anthony Zavala ‘19 both played an outstanding game. Jones’s threatened the Dragons on the defensive end by limiting Sac High’s star guard Miles Lewis ‘20 to score under 10 points.
Jones contributed on the offensive side of the ball as well, scoring 15 points against the Dragons. As the point guard, Zavala initiated the offense by distributing the ball with a total of 7 assists and 13 points. Unfortunately, the boys effort was not enough to defeat the Dragons. The Falcons record has fallen to 9 losses in league which eliminates them from playoff contention.

The Christian Brothers Men’s Basketball team played Vista Del Lago this past Tuesday night in a Capital Athletic League game as the Falcons beat the Eagles 64-60. The Falcons started the game off slow as Vista led 21-10 at the end of the first quarter. At the end of the first half, CB was down by 29-24, but was quickly able to pull ahead in the 3rd quarter due to the outstanding number of three pointers scored. Brandon Wiggin ’19, Luke Jones ’20, and Angelo Butler ’20 were on fire, shooting back to back threes throughout the whole 3rd quarter. The Falcons scored 14 points in the 4th quarter, with eight of those points coming from free throws. Butler led CB as the top scorer of the game with 19 points. This win brought the Falcons to their second win of league, bringing their record to 2-9 in conference play. The Falcons will play their final game of the season when they take on Capital Christian. Be sure to come out and watch the team during their senior night this Friday at 7:00 PM at Christian Brothers High School.
