Women’s Soccer Falls In A Hard Fought Game Against The El Camino Eagles

By Lauren Towne

On Thursday night, the Christian Brothers Women’s soccer team traveled to El Camino for a league match against the Eagles. This was the Falcon’s first game back after their bye earlier in the week. The first half remained very even between both teams as it was full of both defensive and offensive success for both teams. Neither team was able to finish, making the score 0-0 at half.

The second half of the match was very similar to the first half in that the game was very evenly matched. Neither team dominated possession on either side of the ball resulting in most of the play taking place in the middle of the field. With five minutes left in the game, a speedy attack by the Eagles led to a goal, as the El Camino forward slotted the ball past the keeper. The Falcons fought hard in the final minutes but could not find the back of the net, leading to an Eagle victory of 1-0.

As the Falcons approach the playoffs, we talked to the league leading scorer with 13 goals this season, Lexi Rakela ‘21 who said, “Energy is contagious so hopefully if I have a high energy level it may lift others and we can bring our best efforts out for playoffs. Also any goal scoring opportunities I get I have to take advantage of them.” The Falcons continue to dominate the stats as they travel to Vista del Lago take on the Eagles for their second to last league game.
