This past Wednesday night, the Christian Brothers Women’s soccer team played their first playoff game of the season against Laguna Creek High School at Hughes Stadium. The Lady Falcons were seeded 3 while the Cardinals was seeded 14.
The first half of the game was played very evenly with both teams exchanging possession of the ball, but neither team had many good chances to score. In the second half however, the Falcons came out with a burst of energy which caused the Falcons to play at a higher tempo and pace. With only three minutes into the second half, Lexi Rakela ’21 passed the ball to Sara Cruz ‘20 who then turned on the defender and ripped a shot. Untouched by the goalkeeper, Cruz’s shot curled beautifully into the upper right area of the net. Cruz felt that “When stepping on the field everyone came out with more heart and a better will to want to win. It’s that desire that led me to score and knowing that this shot could determine our stance in playoffs.” The Falcons played strong defense, lead by Ainsley Carroll ’20 and Mariah Hudnut ’20, to keep Laguna Creek scoreless thus winning their first playoff game 1-0. The Lady Falcons look to advance this Friday as they take on the Manteca Buffaloes at Hughes Stadium at 6 PM.
