This past Tuesday night, the Christian Brothers Women’s Soccer team took the pitch in Folsom to play in their semi-final playoff match for sections against the Vista Del Lago Eagles. During league play, the two teams met twice tying the first time 1-1 and Vista coming out on top in the second meeting 2-1. Vista finished first in league while CB finished third. The Falcons had a big task as they looked to make it to the section championship.
During the first half of the game, the Falcons were very strong defensively which enabled them to attack offensively on Vista’s defense, however they could not finish any shots into the back of the net. The Falcons strong and consistent defense line consisting of Annemarie Barbour ‘19, Ainsley Carroll ‘20, Mariah Hudnut ‘20, and Claire LaRocca ‘22 held the Eagles scoreless until the final seconds of the first half when the Eagles finished a strong shot into the back of the net.
In the second half, the Eagles put another goal away early in the first five minutes. The Falcons continued to fight and put pressure on the Eagles; a through ball to Lexi Rakela ‘20 helped her beat a Vista player 1v1 and finish the ball into the corner of the goal. With ten minutes left in the game, the Eagles were able to capitalize again, crushing all hopes of a Falcons comeback. The final score was 3-1 but the Falcons effort and perseverance made the game more competitive than what the score shows.
The Lady Falcons Women’s Soccer season comes to an end as they finished 13-5-5 overall, 7-3-2 in league, and made it to the semi-finals of playoffs. This season was monumental for Falcons Women’s Soccer because they exceeded many expectations. Seven seniors will be graduating, including team captain Annemarie Barbour, who proudly and emotionally said, “I’ve been on Varsity for 4 years and this was hands down the best team I’ve been a part of. Making it to the semi-finals is more than I could’ve ever asked for. Each girl played with such heart and talent all season and I can’t wait to see what CB soccer does in the future.” We are so proud of our Women’s Soccer team and the various accomplishment they made!
