Presidential Search Update – Position Announcement

The Board of Trustees is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. David Perry as the next president of Christian Brothers High School, effective July 1, 2025. Dr. Perry succeeds Dr. Crystal LeRoy who, after serving five years as president, is stepping down at the end of this school year.

Dr. Perry brings over seventeen years of experience in educational administration, including eleven years as president of St. Patrick-St. Vincent High School in Vallejo and of Cristo Rey High School in Sacramento. He has also served as a faculty member, assistant principal, and principal in both Catholic and public schools. Dr. Perry holds a BS in Finance, an MBA, an MA and EdD in Educational Leadership. His degrees as well as his experience have equipped him to lead with knowledgeable educational and financial insight. Previously at Cristo Rey, he successfully raised funds for capital projects and endowment growth both prior to and through the COVID period. He also gained valuable financial management experience managing a small business. A graduate of Saint Mary’s College for all his tertiary degrees, Dr. Perry was deeply influenced by the Lasallian Mission which also shaped his and his wife Susan’s decision to send all three of their children to Christian Brothers High School.

As the current principal, Dr. Perry has a deep, functional, and internal knowledge of the school and will be ready to assume all the responsibilities of president on day one. He is committed to transparency, clear and inclusive communication, and strong fiscal leadership as he guides the future of the school and Lasallian education in Sacramento.

This news marks the culmination of a thoughtful and thorough process that began last December with the formation of a presidential search committee and securing the services of an executive search firm. Following an extensive nationwide search and in-depth review of applications, fifteen candidates were identified, screened, and had initial interviews. Seven candidates advanced to more extensive interviews, after which three finalists were identified. The three finalists were invited to campus on successive days to meet with members of the community including the search committee, members of the faculty, staff, and administration, students, parents, alumni as well as other stakeholders over the course of three days. In addition, the Board of Trustees then conducted an extensive interview with each finalist.

The Board of Trustees unanimously agree that Dr. Perry is the best candidate to serve as the next president of Christian Brothers High School. Upon accepting the role, Dr. Perry shared, “I am honored to have been asked by the Board of Trustees to serve as the next President of Christian Brothers High School. I am grateful for the formation and inspiration I have received over the years from the Christian Brothers and their lay partners. Additionally, having served as Principal for the past two years I am aware of the many wonderful things that happen on a daily basis as we live our Lasallian Catholic Mission, in service to amazing students entrusted to our care. The work of Lasallian education is done “together and by association” and I look forward to working with our committed faculty and staff, our students, our parents, our alumni community, and the broader Sacramento community as we ‘take care that our school runs well (Letter 42-to Brother Robert in Darnetal, 26 Feb 1709)’. Christian Brothers High School is preparing to enter our 150th year of Lasallian Catholic education in Sacramento, and I am so excited to be part of the next chapter that we will write together in our history.”

The Board of Trustees is grateful to the search committee for their leadership in facilitating the search process. Brother David Caretti, FSC, Chair of the committee and Kamaljeet Khaira, Vice Chair, organized and executed a process that was thorough, fair and ultimately very successful. The search committee, comprised of faculty, staff, members of the Board of Trustees and the greater CBHS community, completed implicit bias training prior to interviews and brought a variety of backgrounds and experiences to the process.

With deep appreciation for the Brothers of the Christian Schools and the Lasallian District of San Francisco New Orleans, the Board of Trustees is excited to announce this good news. It is fitting that as the school’s 150-year anniversary nears, the new president is a deeply committed, knowledgeable and trusted Lasallian leader. The Board humbly asks for your prayers and support for Dr. Perry and the faculty and staff, the wider school community, families, and most importantly our students as we embark on this next step in sustaining and growing the legacy, excellence, and mission of Christian Brothers High School, a beacon of Lasallian Catholic Education in Sacramento.
